Whether you are playing a high-stakes local tournament or having a casual hit with friends, sportsmanship matters. In racket sports like tennis and padel, the unwritten rules of court etiquette are just as important as the official rulebook.
To keep the game fun, competitive, and respectful for everyone, keep these golden rules in mind during your next match.
1. Respect Your Booking Window
Punctuality is key. Show up a few minutes early so you are ready to step onto the court the moment your reservation begins. More importantly, clear the court immediately when your booking time ends—even if you are in the middle of a tie-breaker. Respect the players waiting for the next slot.
2. Call Lines Honestly and Fairly
Recreational games don't have line judges or electronic review systems. Honesty is crucial.
- You are responsible for calling lines on your side of the net.
- If a ball is 99% out but you are not completely sure, call it in.
- Always respect your opponent's calls on their side without arguing.
3. Keep the Noise Respectful
While cheering a great point is encouraged, constant shouting or screaming can distract players on adjacent courts. Keep your energy positive and be mindful of your surroundings.
4. Honor Your Commitments in Social Play
If you join a public game or a social play session, you are making a commitment to three other people. Canceling at the last minute or simply not showing up ruins the experience for everyone.
At Smash, we value community and fair play. Our reporting system helps keep play sessions safe and fun by tracking players who fail to show up or engage in unsportsmanlike behavior. Let's make every match a great experience for everyone on court!
